Types of Wood Floor
If you want to have a stylish floor covering without having to spend a fortune, you can always consider about having wood floor that can make your house look stylish without overdoing it. If you think that wood floor will make your house look dull and boring, then you’re wrong. With the right coating and also protective layer, your floor can look just gorgeous in a simple way. So, what should you know about this type of flooring?

Wood flooring is a floor covering made of timber. The main purpose can be for aesthetical or even structural. People often make mistakes by thinking that wood flooring is just the same as bamboo flooring. Bamboo is made of grass while wood is made of timber. Lots of home owners like to choose wood floor because it’s flexible, simple, elastic, long lasting, and durable. There’re basically two types of wood flooring: the solid one and the engineered one.

As the name suggest, the solid wood is very strong and durable. Each of the wood planks is made from a single timber, so you can imagine how strong it is. Because of its strength, the wood is often used for structural support that is attached to joists and bearers. But today’s modern houses don’t usually joists and bearers anymore; they tend to use concrete slab. The planks can be attached to the concrete slab too.  This type of flooring is often considered expensive and exclusive because of the high quality of the material. Another great thing about solid wood is that it’s able to absorb and release moisture so it can help contributing to the hygiene and cleanliness of the house. If you install such flooring at your house and you use coating on top of it, the end result will be just marvelous and beautiful. You can achieve homey feeling in the simplest way.

On the other hand, each plank from engineered wood is made of several layers; not one solid timber piece like the solid wood.  In engineered wood, the outer layer is often called as lamella which is installed on the substrate or core of the wood in order to be stable. Engineered wood is different from veneers, vinyl, or laminate flooring. Laminate flooring isn’t made of real wood; the top layer is just the image of the wood to create illusion that it’s a type of wood flooring. That’s why it’s quite cheaper when compared to the solid and engineered wood. The vinyl flooring is made of plastic that is designed to look like wood. The veneer flooring uses fiberboard as the main core with top layer attachment using the thin wood layer.

Caring for the wood floor isn’t difficult as long as you know how. You can always use damp mop or vacuum cleaner to clean the area. If you see spots or stains on the floor, using a damp cloth will remove them. Never use any soaps or chemical substances to clean the wooden floor. You can also use cleaning products that are advised by the manufacturer.
